Recorded an the unkempt patch of a Spanish farm "La Illa" still owned by my family, near Tortosa. I brought a chair out under a palm tree and recorded the whole thing in about 6 hours.
The riff was written an hour bike ride out from Amsterdam in a smaller town nearby, on a bench that was overgrown. In Amsterdam I recorded an instrumental at Sarphatipark and later wrote and recorded the first half of the vocals on a tree bent over the water at Vondelpark. I left it for a while then came back to complete it after two weeks of travel through various countries when I had some time to reflect at Lac d'Annecy in France, where I wrote the bridge and played the finished song for the ducks.
lyrics
I rode out to a country town
I rode far from the city, found a place to sit down
It was a bench that was overgrown
There was no one there, sometimes I like to be alone
I try every day to be a little more kind
Maybe I could love you with a little more time
But for now I gotta keep moving on
I gotta figure out who I am by writing these songs
Gotta let myself know what I'm all about
Gotta know why I whimper and why I shout
Can't count all the times how desperately I wanted out
I try every day to be a little more kind
Maybe I could love you with a little more time
It's strange that now it comes to me
Through every rosy memory
The time she was a half of me
I think it may have been too much
I needed her; she was my crutch
She was my charm, she was my luck
Relied on her to hold me up
I think I really lost myself
Yeah, I really lost myself
I never really found myself
And to this day I wonder was it love?
But for now I gotta keep moving on
I gotta figure out who I am by writing these songs
Gotta let myself know what I'm all about
Gotta know why I whimper and why I shout
Well I want out

Her music always has invoked emotion in me and these earlier tracks are no exception! Sunset and we’re falling are contenders for some of my absolute favorite ILWAG tracks but as always, every piece in this collection has a lil bit of something special :). So glad I stumbled upon this after being a fan for years. quinnkiera11
